Effective ways to handle stress
Evolution has bestowed on our brains an assortment of mechanisms for managing life’s challenges and changes — our body is biologically programmed to make us feel good. But ignoring our biological need to periodically disengage can cause stress, which can harm our health. We live in a highly stressful and demanding world. Recent studies have shown that 70 percent of all physician visits are stress related and 40 percent of employee turnover is due to stress. Unchecked, stress can lead to anxiety, fatigue, depression, insomnia and the list goes on.
Our mind and body are closely interconnected. Continuous stress alters our blood chemistry and drains the body’s resources and ability to adapt. Once the “survival” functions are compromised, immunity deteriorates leading to illness. Therefore, it is essential to take regular breaks to give mind and body a well-deserved recovery.
